CHURCH FAMILY

A reminder that John Armstrong’s funeral will be held on Tuesday, 1st September, 10 a.m. with a committal at Landican followed at 10.45 a.m. by a Service of Thanksgiving at church.  All are welcome to attend at both Landican and/or Church.  The family have asked that people wear bright colours rather than the traditional black.  Following the Service of Thanksgiving everyone is invited to join the family for refreshments at the Black Lodge Tap, 3 Banks Road, West Kirby.

It is with sadness we share the news of the death of Daphne Trivett on Monday 24th August.  There will be a committal service at Landican for the family on Monday 14th September.   This will be followed by a Service of Thanksgiving at church at 11.15 a.m.  All are warmly invited to attend and to share stories over refreshments in the Church Hall straight after the service.   If anyone wishes to send a card of condolence to the family Sam has the address.

MINISTERIAL LEADERSHIP AT WEST KIRBY – GOING FORWARD

Most of you are aware that the Circuit has agreed to fund two days per week of lay ministry at West Kirby for the foreseeable future.  This is in light of us failing to be matched with a Presbyter for the coming year and beyond, when we went into stationing last year, knowing that Deacon Ellie would be leaving us this summer.  Some have been wondering how that will work, so perhaps an explanation might help.

The Circuit will soon be advertising for a Local Lay Pastor (LLP) for two days per week, based at West Kirby Methodist Church.  This post comes with training at Cliff College, to equip that person to manage an appropriate level of pastoral and spiritual care for the church family.  At the same time, there will always be a Presbyter within our Circuit who keeps pastoral oversight of the church and will meet regularly with the LLP to support and guide their role, though the Presbyter will have a very limited presence in the church.  For the coming year Rev Noel Sharp will be that Presbyter, and it is envisaged that the person who replaces him as Superintendent in September 2027 will then take on that same role.

Sam currently works the equivalent of three days per week at WKMC and that role will continue.  When the LLP role is advertised Sam will apply and, if successful, this will lead to her working full-time at the church, blending both roles throughout the week.  Of course, others are welcome to apply too, so it may be that a different person is appointed.  Either way, West Kirby will be getting a Local Lay Pastor in the near future to offer pastoral and spiritual leadership supported by a Presbyter.  This will be a long-term appointment.

WHAT ARE WE PRAYING FOR AT THE MOMENT?

  • The people of the areas of Nepal and Tibet where flash floods have killed over 300 people with many others reported missing.
  • All those affected by the many conflicts around the world.
