Our Mission Statement

The Methodist Church exists to:
  • provide worship of God which is meaningful for a wide variety of people
  • promote and encourage development in Christian living for all age groups through worship and by providing occasions for fellowship which give mutual encouragement, support and opportunities for learning which lead to growth in the Christian life.
  • demonstrate God’s love and care as exemplified in Jesus, through our relationship with each other and by expressing His loving concern and action in the community in which we live and the wider world.
  • discover the quality of life which is in keeping with the Gospel truths and to be instruments for change to make that quality of life possible for ourselves and others.
  • share the Gospel declared in Jesus with others, in such a way that they respond to Him and are drawn into the family of the Church.
  • share wherever possible, with other churches in the area, these tasks.

A Brief History

The present church was opened on 26th April 1904 extending from the school chapel next door, which had been built in 1889. Prior to that, Methodists in West Kirby had met in rooms in Tynwald Hall, above what is now Thorntons in The Crescent.

Additions were made in 1945 by the purchase of 25 Westbourne Road and in 1971 by the building of the Hilda Shore complex, while in 1997 a new foyer provided a spacious welcoming place. The church has also been enhanced by many gifts, including stained glass windows and an excellent organ. In 1963 the members of Eaton Road Chapel united with the congregation here, in Westbourne Road, as did those of Newton in 1971.

These buildings have been and still are home to fellowship, youth and community groups, whilst the Royal Air Force maintains a connection which began in 1948. The buildings may have changed over the years but the welcome is still as warm.
